Remote Learning Reflection

================================================================

1. What are your thoughts on remote learning and your experience with it? What have you liked and disliked about it?

I actually really disliked the remote learning for the most part. I didn’t like being at home and learning because I get distracted really easily so I ended up really procrastinating. I don’t have good organization strategies and therefore I often lost track of my time and ended up handing in assignments late.
I’m also a very extroverted person so being alone in quarantine did not work well with my mental health. My happiness thrives off of being with others and not having that made me tired, and unmotivated.
I would definitely never consider an online class or doing this ever again if I had a choice.

2. How has technology benefited you during the remote learning experience?

Well, I got all my classes online so without technology I would not be able to learn at home. Technology has also helped me learn the information I needed while doing online assignments. Instead of having to open a textbook, I was able to directly learn information from reliable sources.
Technology has also allowed me to communicate with my friends like I mentioned earlier I am a huge extrovert so being able to call my friends and text them really helped me.
I would say technology has had a big positive impact on my remote learning experience.

3. How has technology impeded you during the remote learning experience?

Well, I have an issue with keeping focus. With my phone around me while trying to learn I find myself getting distracted and getting lost in my phone for hours. For the most part, technology has been really positive and really helped me in my remote learning experience. Being distracted by social media is the only thing I can think of that impeded my remote learning experience.

4. What is one core competency that you already were proficient with that helped you transition into remote learning?

One core competency that I am already proficient with that helped me was “Positive personal & cultural identity.” The statement I chose in this core competency was apart of “Personal strengths and abilities” and states “I understand I will continue to develop new abilities and strengths to help me meet new challenges”
I would like to say I am a good problem solver, so when I was met with the challenge that my workspace was unmotivating and I wasn’t getting anything done, I just thought I was tired. I took a rest and then returned to school and I still felt unmotivated. So I decided to change my workspace from my desk to my bed. Although working from your bed seems informal, I actually get so much more done. I changed my mindset of thinking I was lazy if I worked from my bed and adapted a new mindset and now I get so much more work done.

5. What is one core competency that you have improved or developed during your remote learning experience?

One core competency that I developed during remote learning was was “Personal Awareness and Responsibility.” The statement I chose in this core competency was apart of “Well-being” and states “I can use strategies to find peace in hard times.”
Remote learning and the state of the world currently have affected all of us in one way or another and with the constant stream of negativity that is the news right now, It’s important to do things to improve your mental health. I used to not be good at this. I would let the negativity affect me and I would get upset. Then I started searching up coping strategies and put them in place. Now I can acknowledge the state of the world, stand by the people who are fighting change, and stay strong without affecting myself too much.

Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

I think that a digital footprint could affect you in job and college applications. When applying for jobs and colleges everything is taken into consideration including what the individual has posted online. What you have contributed to the internet can waver a job or colleges decision to accept you.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

Well you can consider what you post online before you post it. You can also protect your privacy by not sharing personal information even in private conversations. Understanding that sending or publishing is like putting something on the internet is also like publishing forever. In conclusion always be mindful of what you are doing online and offline as well.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?

I don’t think that i would do anything differently online because i have always been aware of the general idea of digital footprints but I would like to tell younger me and younger students that you need to consider your actions. The internet is always watching and it never forgets. Mark my word. I would explain it to them by talking to them about the consequences of their actions.
