Digital Footprint Assignment

Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

Your digital footprint can affect your future opportunities depending if you footprint is a positive one or a negative one. For example when you apply for a new job the employer will usually search you up, because they want to see what type of person you are and what interests you have. If they find that you are friendly and suitable for the job they will most likely hire you. However, if they find a picture of you drinking, they might question your professionalism, and you will lose your odds for that job.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

  1. Use privacy settings: Making your social media accounts “private” can be very beneficial because it will make the information you post accessible to less people.
  2. Don’t overshare: Information like full names, addresses, credit card numbers, and birthdays shouldn’t be shared online.
  3. Think before posting:  Always make sure that the information you post isn’t going to hurt or offend others.

Basically, just make sure that the prints you leave are good ones.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything that you would do differently online? Think of what advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students.

While googling myself, I found out that my Pinterest username was my FULL NAME. This was obviously a big mistake because other people could see my interests. After I found out, I quickly changed my username but I will never know if  somebody else copied that information earlier. So, if I could go back in time I wouldn’t have used my full name as a username.
