1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.
There are many things that a digital footprint may affect for example our future opportunities. The first example is for when you are at a job interview your interviewers may ask you for your status on social media. When I say status I mean, what content you post, the people you are following and the impact you have made on social media. This may affect your interview greatly because 27% of interviewers can track your social media; therefore if you lied during your interview then it may or may not be bad. The second example would be your reputation. In a society like this, I feel like everything depends on your reputation. For example when it comes to making friends, acquaintances, finding jobs, and how people look at you. All these things can possibly make your life miserable, because everyone or everything may push you away.
2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
You could keep your digital footprint safe and appropriate by posting appropriate content, which includes not sharing your location, playing it safe when you post a picture of yourself, as well as content that is appropriate for the audience. You could also keep your digital footprint safe by making your account private on almost any social media platforms. You could also turn off your location sharing so people won’t know your locations 24/7. The last thing you could do is to not share your personal information on whatever platform you are on.
3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?
Some of the advice that I would give to my younger self and others would be to make your personal account private and only open to friends because if your account is not private then anyone can view your content or follow you. Therefore if you made it private then it would be safer because the people that keep up with you, actually know you and you have a safe relationship. One thing that I would do differently online is to not make my user my name or information that is personal.
