In-Depth Final Post – Let’s DANCE!

Hey everyone! Welcome to my In-Depth! My dance partner, Gyu Min, and I have been working extremely hard to learn a 90-second hip-hop dance routine and perform it for you all tonight, so I hope you enjoy it. Learning how to dance was a really interesting and fun journey, so if you’d like to see how it went, click on this first link below:

In-Depth Process Video

If you don’t have enough time to watch that, you can just watch the two different versions of our final dance routine. This first link leads to the routine with both of us in the same shot:

And this link is two separate videos of us joined together (also included in the process video):

Dance Routine Version #2

Thank you so much to Kailey Huang for leading us through this journey and being a kind, supportive, and patient mentor. We’ve both learned so much from her and had a ton of fun in the process.

Don’t forget to comment any questions or feedback, and I will try to respond as soon as I can. Thanks for watching, and enjoy In-Depth Night!

  1. Indah! Hello!

I’m so thankful that you and Gyu Min asked me to become your mentor. I enjoyed every moment of this “tiring, sweaty, but fun” learning process. You two really improved since the beginning of in-depth. Keep on dancing, you’ve got the groove!

What was your favorite part of learning hip hop? Are there any other genres you would like to try in the future?

I’m so glad I had the honor of mentoring two wonderful and passionate people. Nice work!

    1. Thank you so much Kailey! My favourite part about learning hip hop was probably learning hard to do moves like the backbend and the low to the ground footwork. After learning that one part of “What you want” in musical theatre, I’m a little interested in learning tap dance. Thank you for being so patient and wonderful to Gyu Min and I, I’ll really miss our weekly meetups!

  2. Entertaining and talented. What step or move was the hardest and why? Thanks, Kailey for being an awesome mentor?

    1. Thanks Ms. Mulder! The hardest move to do for me was the kick and spin around close to the ground near the end. Gyu Min seemed to find it easier than I did.

    2. My pleasure! I’m very lucky to be able to work with such brilliant people. Thank you Ms. Mulder for giving us the opportunity to learn from each other!

  3. Wow guys! You three are all so talented. I think it’s so cool that you found a way to finish the routine even despite the circumstances. Your video was very clear and it was fun to watch 🙂

  4. I really enjoyed the whole concept of starting formal and switching to hip hop.
You both really showed improvement over the months of filming. Congrats.

  5. You both look like you had fun from start to finish. I really like both versions but the first one is my favourite. Keep dancing!

  6. INDAHHHHH! Woahhh triple-threat alert! You did such a great job 🙂 You guys look mega rad.

  7. Great job, Indah & Gyu Min!

Indah, you’ve always been a great dancer in theatre, now seeing you do hip hop for the first time is cool!

  8. Indah and Gyu Min, I know if we were all watching in the auditorium, the whole room would burst into applause watching your hip hop performance. So awesome!

  9. Yayyyyyyy Indah!
You were amazing (as always). What made you decide to work with hip hop as opposed to other dance styles? Great job to both of you, you guys showed a lot of talent in a short period of time!

    1. Thank you Leah! I decided to do hip-hop because it’s a genre of dance very different from anything I’ve done before. Enjoy the rest of In-Depth Night!

  10. Wow, awesome job!
I imagine your newly-acquired dancing skills will prove useful in Musical Theatre!

I loved that seamless transition between the costumes. Was that your idea? Elyjah’s? Kailey’s? Gyu Min’s? Either way, I really liked that part. And the whole thing in general. Great work!

    1. Thank you Liam! The costume switch was Gyu Min’s idea, and I edited the video 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my post, enjoy the rest of In-Depth Night!

  11. That was sooo entertaining & well done! You & Gyu Min did an amazing job & hope you both keep dancing! Loved the process video showing all your hard work – great job!

  12. Amazing job and congratulations on the completion of your project! Did you have any challenges in your learning process, such as moves that didn’t come so easily or simply having a hard time feeling the groove? After working with different choreographers (with amazing Kailey and our awesome Musical Theatre chef) did you find any practice strategies or methods that worked for you?

    1. Thank you Grace! At the beginning when we were first starting out, it took us a while to get down the basics of hip hop, and getting down the groove as newbies was the most difficult. However after we found our own strategies, we moved a lot faster in the process. After working with Maddie and Kailey, I’ve learned that keeping powerful movements even in the simplest of actions. Even in hip hop when movements can be very fluid and lose, it’s important to extend your movements to the fullest when necessary. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your night!

      1. Thanks for the clear answers! You did amazing and I’m sure that your skills will only grow in the future!

  13. Hi,

I love that you used Gleneagle colours. How do you think your in-depth experience was different since you had a partner?

    1. Thank you! Working with a partner is beneficial because if there is something you can’t quite get but they can, they can teach you from another learner’s perspective. However, it can also be challenging to perform in sync with each other and being mindful of equal space and timing. It’s harder to get away with a mistake in a duet. Thank you for commenting!

  14. Yes!! You guys look absolutely incredible I love the dance and the song and I wanna learn it!!! Teach me!!!

  15. Wow! This is really cool! You and Gyu Min have really grown as dancers over the past few months! 🙂

  16. I watched the full video, and you both looked like you had so much fun during the process! The dance itself was really well done too!

  17. Woah, what an amazing In-depth project! So, so, so cool! I loved watching the progress video, and really loved the dance! Super incredible!

  18. You look beautiful, and those dance moves are amazing! Congrats on a successful in-depth 2020!
