Digital literacy Final Assessment blog

Hello to the digital literacy teacher reading this. My name is Jafar Jeffrey, and I’m currently in grade 9. starting off with the first question that was given to us, “what are your thoughts on remote learning and what is your experience with it”. For starters, I’ve never had a learning experience like this before so this is quite new to me. However, I think that it could be very useful to me by giving me a feel of how online learning works and how I could apply that in the future. For the second question “what have you liked and disliked with it”. I’ve really liked the fact that I don’t have to wake up super early in the morning to go to school however I also don’t like staring at a computer screen for so long. For the third question, “how is technology benefiting me during the remote learning experience”. Well, it’s benefiting me by giving me a chance to continue my schoolwork and learning unlike many other people around the world who don’t have that opportunity. For the fourth question, ” what is one core competency that you are already proficient with that has helped you transition into remote learning”.  One core competency that I think I was already proficient with is critical thinking. I proved this when I completed my digital literacy/English assignment. I designed a very aesthetic infographic about grammar rules and I believe Mr. Beley should be marking it soon. For the fifth question, “what is one core competency that you have improved or developed during your remote learning experience”. I think that a core competency I’ve gained during this remote learning experience is personal awareness and responsibility. I think this because I’ve been forced to adapt to these big changes in everyday life and fill my time with useful things. For example, because of all the free time that I’ve gotten since the quarantine, I can now play many more songs on guitar, I put more time into studying, and I’ve been much fitter because I’ve been going on lots of daily runs.

XFL Marketing Presentation

In this assignment, we were tasked with fiding failed products and companies. The company that I chose was the XFL, which was a football league. I chose this company because I like football and it had lots of information about it so it would be easy to research. Some pre-existing skills that I brought into this project were knowing and completing many nice powerpoints, watching football a lot which meant I knew what I was talking about, and having a passion for it, so I would put more effort. Some challenges I faced while doing this project was that I was at a trip hen it was assigned so I didn’t have a partner or much time to finish the project. However, the end product was very nice and I was proud of it. I think that I displayed critical thinking and personal awareness and responsibility.

Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

A digital footprint can impact your future in many ways. One example would be if you were applying for a job and your employer finds out that you had posted an offensive comment/post. Even if you had a perfect resume, you would probably not be considered for the job anymore because of that. However, if you had a good reputation online, your employer would be more compelled to hire you even if your resume had some faults.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

My first tip on being safe on the internet would be to not post anything personal about yourself. Some examples could be your address, your name, or anything someone could track you with. Another tip would be to never post any sensitive information online such as your card number, bank name, or social security number. My last tip would be to change your profile settings to private so that strangers can’t contact or see you.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them

If I could go back in time, I would definitely do things differently online. One example would be to change my profile settings to private so that only my friends and family could have seen my profile. I would also not comment on some things that I now see were offensive and could have hurt someone’s feelings. The advise I would give to someone younger would be to treat others how you would want to be treated online and that you could easily hurt someone’s feelings so if you have even the smallest doubt that something you want to post could hurt someone, you should keep it to yourself.
