Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

There are many ways your digital footprint could affect your future opportunities, but two of them are. That whatever you post now is permanent, and even if you delete it, it will be stored somewhere, as the internet never forgets. Should you post something that is bad or offensive it can be seen as a reflection of how you act. This leads into my other point, which is that now more and more employers are looking at people’s digital footprint to see who they should hire. And what you post could be the defining factor in what lands you a job or not.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

There are three strategies you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe. Before you post anything online, you should use the acronym T.H.I.N.K to show whether or not you should post. You should also never post anything that you may find embarrassing in the future and could reflect negatively on people’s opinions of you. And one more thing you can do to keep safe is to make sure that only friends and people you know can see your posts, messages, and the like.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything that you would do differently online? Think of what advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students.

If I could go back in time, and tell myself and others what to do differently online. I would tell them to be very kind online. As an example from myself, I play many games online and it is easy to get mad or talk badly to others. You should be kind because it is the right thing to do. Being kind online is something that you don’t see often. It’s always people who are mad or angry. But be different, be greater than those who belittle others for their own pride. Be the kindest person you can be.
