Good evening Mr. Flemming!
I loved reading about your life! The loved the graphics in your presentation. Beautiful! I think you were able to portray your eminence gloriously.
I was wondering what inspired Natalie to choose you as her eminent person.
December 2, 2021 at 1:53 am
Hello Kira,
Thank you for your kind comment. I myself had been wondering why Natalie chose me as her eminent person, so I went and asked her. She said that it was because she thought I was determined and persistent in my work and that I would have never gotten to where I was without those traits. She also found that I discovered Penicillin by accident very intriguing. Thank you again for your kind comment.

Thank you for your presentation! Your journal entries made me wonder if you ever attempted studying any other forms of fungus in an attempt to isolate additional antibiotics?
December 2, 2021 at 4:09 am
Hello Suzannah. I have done many studies through my years, included many unsuccessful ones. The main problem with isolating antibiotics is that they can be poisonous. That is why when Penicillin was discovered, it was a big deal. Thank you again for your comment.

Hello Dr. Fleming,
I loved the interactive aspect of reading your journal. I learned a lot about your life and found it interesting that you greatest accomplishment was an accident! What do you think you would have done if you had not discovered penicillin? Would you go on to pursue a different career path?
Thanks, Rian

Hello Rian,
Thank you for your wonderful comment. I do not know what I would have done if I did not discover penicillin, but I do know that it was all thanks to my brother, Tom, who got me on this path. Without his inspiration, yes I would probably have gone down another path, however, I do not know which one because he inspired me at such a young age I did not have time to pursue anything else. Thank you for your comment.

Hello Mr. Flemming!
I really liked the polish and backgrounds you used in your presentation and how it contributed to the mood. I also appreciated how you included information about a person you looked up to. My question is if you have ever regretted not pursuing your research in relation to your discovery of penicillin sooner and why?

Hello Dr. Fleming,
Thank you for the inspirational life story! It’s interesting to see how such important discoveries can remain in the shadows for so long before being put in use. What is your opinion on drug companies unnecessarily raising prices of their drugs nowadays? For example, Mylan hiking the price of the EpiPen in 2016.

Hello Collin,
Thank you for your comment. When I discovered penicillin, I just wanted to help people. I am not too happy to hear about the rise in prices for drugs because the people they can help will be limited by higher expenses. However, I can not say I did not see this coming. Thank you again for your comment.

Hi Mr. Fleming
I really liked your learning center because of the way it was set up as a book. It made it really easy to read and understand!
When did you realize the significance of your discovery?
Thanks Matthias
December 2, 2021 at 4:32 am
Hello Matthias. Thank you for your comment. I believe I realized the significance of my discovery when it was first successful with a patient. This was the first time an antibiotic had worked and was not poisonous. I then realized it was going to help so many people. Thank you again for your comment.

Hi Mr. Fleming,
Great presentation! I especially liked how smooth the transitions were from page to page, and I liked how you acknowledged the effect of your brother on your most famous discovery. My question is if you had never discovered penicillin, what other significant discoveries might you have been known for?
December 2, 2021 at 4:37 am
Hello Kaiwen. Thank you for your comment. If I hadn’t discovered penicillin, I would have still discovered lysozyme and knowing how curious I tend to be, I would have used the time I spent researching penicillin to conduct another study. Thank you again.

Dr. Flemming! Thank you for your attendance and participation tonight! It was wonderful to hear about your life, eminence, and legacy. I was wondering what advice or lessons you might have for those young folks in science who want to make incredible discoveries and help mankind? You made your important discovery by accident; how might you acknowledge the happenstance nature of your discovery while also recognizing your eminence in it?
December 2, 2021 at 6:31 pm
Hello Katherine, thank you for the invitation. I am grateful to be a participant in this event. A piece of advice I would give the young folks would be, to never give up on their dreams or discoveries. It took ten years before someone noticed my discovery, however, because I was persistent, it became a success with a bit of help. I believe that my discovery itself does not prove my eminence, but my curiosity, and persistence that led to the success of penicillin is the real reason I am eminent. Thank you again for the comment.

Alexander Flemming, thank you for sharing your life with us. What made you curious? What other issues or questions did you ponder in your life time?
December 2, 2021 at 8:14 pm
Hello Ms. Mulder,
Thank you for your positive comment. Ever since I was young, I always looked up to my older brother Tom. I decided to follow him into the field of medicine. Because you have to question everything in this profession, I developed a curiosity for many of my studies. I have pondered many of the aspects of medicine, especially antibiotics. Thank you again for your comment.
