Core Competencies Quarter 1 Questions

1. During Quarter 1, what went well for you? Examples: being back in the classroom, having only two courses, seeing my friends, keeping up with homework, playing volleyball, improving math, helping plan a virtual assembly, becoming more fit.

During Quarter 1, keeping up with homework, having two courses to focus on, athletic training (volleyball), having friends I can rely on, and getting in contact with old friends. In Quarter 1, I was able to get rid of my habit of procrastinating, having two courses really helped with my time management. I also worked on my physical health to keep up with all the missed volleyball practices, due to COVID-19. I was also able to get back in contact with old friends from middle school and thankfully had/have many friends I could rely on during difficult times.

2. During Quarter 1, what did you find challenging or disappointing or stressful? Explain.

During Quarter 1, I found it pretty stressful not being able to leave the country to visit my family during difficult times. I also found it disappointing when I was not able to play or practice volleyball due to COVID and an injury.

3. Think of ONE thing you really want to improve in Quarter 2 (and Q 3&4). Examples: a school subject, a sport, time spent on homework/studying, playing a musical instrument, leadership skills, a language, photography, a relationship, general fitness.

During Quarter 2, I would like to improve on physical and mental training for volleyball. Since I was not able to practice or train for volleyball for more than half a year.

4. What are two specific actions that you can start doing every day to get closer to your goal? How long will you spend on this action each day? What part of the day?

a) I could work on physical endurance training by working out/training about an hour a day (for starters) but also keeping in mind not to overwork myself.

b) I could pay more attention to mental health and not over working myself trying maintain a healthy balance for school, sleep schedule, physical health, and mental health.

5. If you experience challenges, what might you do to work through them? Examples: ask help from a friend or parent; break the task into smaller chunks; “google” how other people may deal with similar problems.

To work through challenges, I would take small breaks but only if I feel it is needed. During the break breaks, I would go on my phone, play with my dog, or grab a quick snack. If the challenge is something like a mental health problem, I would usually try to take some time to reflect or talk to myself about it. I have many people around me who are willing to listen to what my challenges are, but usually I find it best when if I talk to myself about it first. Of course, if I feel like this challenge is not something I could solve myself, I would talk to a parent or friends about this problem.
