Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

What you do online is permanent so when you apply for a job, the person who is thinking about hiring you can look back at things you shared years ago, which can be positive or negative depending on what it is. It can also affect you when you want to go to university or college for the same reason as the job example.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

The easiest thing you can do is think twice before sharing. Before commenting or posting or sending texts, you should think again to see if this is something that’ll make positive impact in the future. Another thing you can do is turn on age restrictions. You can enable age restriction on some apps and websites, which blocks content that is inappropriate for young ages. I think the most important thing to do on social media is to make your accounts private. This keeps all of your posts private and only visible to people you approved to follow. This is very important because anyone can look into your account if it is public but when it’s private, you can control who views your account.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?

If i could go back in time, I wouldn’t change anything i did online because I’ve never posted or commented anything offensive or negative. I would definitely tell other students that whatever you digitally is permanent and that it could affect your future. I would explain what i wrote in my first two paragraphs how it can affect your education or jobs, and how you can prevent a negative impact by keeping our digital footprint appropriate and safe.
