1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

As a teenager starting 9th grade, you’re usually influenced in positive or negative ways, and with our freedom with the internet, we don’t think twice before saying/writing. One common opportunity is to express opinions that will not be tolerated, such as racism or ableism. This will quickly spread across the internet, and most of the time you will be doxxed or blackmailed. If you are considering attending university, this will undoubtedly influence your decision. Another example would be influencing someone’s opinion or perspective of you, as well as destroying friendships and romantic relationships.

 

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

Stop and think before commenting, posting, or reposting anything. Think about if it can be used against you, and understand the consequences. Have anything negative to say, write it down in your personal diary to keep out anything bad!

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything that you would do differently online? Think of what advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students.

I would not put some personal information about my friends where I live what I do and where I’m from, either from that maybe not post such embarrassing videos of myself dancing. I would tell students to be mindful of the internet cause it can be a scary messy mean place, and just remember everything that you think on the internet stays there.
