In-Depth 2021 Part 2

Somehow, just like last year I ended up completely switching my In-Depth project to a completely different topic. However, this works out for me better since my new in-depth project is similar to what I initially wanted to do for my project last year. This also poses less of a concern for my health and I was able to find a mentor in it. Therefore, with approval, I have officially changed my 2021 In-Depth topic to Makeup Art.

My mentor’s name is Lyndsay Robertson; she works in the makeup industry and is a senior artist at Sephora on top of owning her own business. As far as we began to converse I found the two of us had quite agreeable conversations. She offers me advice for beginners in makeup art and diligently answers any questions I have in detail. I have begun to do some independent research too so I can add to my knowledge pool and so I am not solely relying on Lyndsay.

Due to me being very much a beginner, like my only experience being wearing mascara, I don’t have the experience or ability to disagree with Lyndsay. Because I am just beginning to learn, I have not begun to form any specific opinions towards makeup art, products, or application methods.

So far, no differences have arisen but if they do, my plan to reconcile is to simply search for a middle ground between the opinions or just accept the fact that I may develop different preferences than my mentor. In regards to the future, we are just going to have to take this slow and see how it goes. However, I cannot wait to progress further with my skills.

My mentor is a firm believer that every brand has a few good things if not more in their brand and that no brand is specifically bad in all aspects.

I have started experimenting with materials I have at home but by my next update, I will be purchasing skin-care products, which are essential for taking care of your skin, and some of the beginner materials my mentor recommended. Because I’m brand new at this Lyndsay suggested that I get higher end concealer and foundation. On top of that, eyeshadows, a brow pencil, and a lip-gloss/lipstick is definitely a good place to start. Especially considering once I get proficient at these then I can try other products too.

I really need to go out and buy starting supplies ASAP since this is all I currently own due to not wearing makeup often:

I’m really looking forward to when I can begin to start learning to do makeup hands on and to learn more with my mentor. More updates to come in a bit!
