Core Competencies Feb 11

  1. What goal have you been working on–what have you been trying to improve at school, at home, or in the community? (If you haven’t been, you can start now!)

My goal is …

My goal is to continue reading more often. I want to create better reading habits, in terms of reading in a routine-like habit. This will encourage me to prioritize my activities, while also working on my goal.

How has it been going? What challenges have you had?

It has been going well because I have been reading novels and using online resources to find reading material. My biggest challenge would be accessing reading resources that I will enjoy. For example, I might be able to find multiple books online, however, it is hard to find a book that interests me.

2. What artefact(s) from Q1 or Q2 have you chosen to show your progress? An artefact can be an assignment, activity, letter grade, new job, fitness level…) Take a picture of the artefact so you have records for your year-end reflection and future grade 12 Capstone.

This is my independent novel study that I worked on in English (quarter 2).

3. What would you like to adjust or refocus going forward?

I want to adjust the time I read to better suit my day-to-day schedule. I want to read in shorter periods within the week instead of reading large portions in a single day. This way, it won’t take up majority of my day, as well as interfere with at-home responsibilities.

4. What are some strategies your peers use to cope with stress?

My peers use their devices and exercise to manage stress. Playing video games or going on social media helps them relax and separate their school life from their home life. Working out is a great method for relieving stress since you can set time aside to focus on your fitness, as well as well-being.

5. What habit do you want to establish to help you manage your stress levels?

To manage stress levels, I want to engage in more physical activities such as yoga, stretching, meditation, etc. Having a more balanced sleep schedule will also benefit my stress levels, as I can establish a routine that’s consistent and efficient.
