1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.
My digital footprint can affect my future in many ways. If I were to apply for a job, my employer would be able to see everything I had posted no matter how long ago it was. Even one bad impression from a stupid decision that happened 10 years ago could be pivotal in whether I get the job or not. It’s important to think about these things now because once it’s there, its there forever. When you publish every aspect of your existence, it is very easy for someone else to find out information about you and use it to cause you harm. This is why it is so important to not overshare and stay safe online.
2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
It is important to monitor your digital footprint and think about what you post before you post it. Before putting something out there, take a second and T.H.I.N.K. Is what your posting true? is it helpful to others? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? and most importantly, Is it kind? Never post anything that you will find embarrassing later. Never share any personal information such as your phone number, passwords, and credit card information anywhere online. Make sure to make your online presence positive and never use it to bully, or spread hate to anyone. Lastly, always remember that the things you post will be there forever, even if you delete them. Safety is the number one priority online and you never know, keeping your digital footprint safe and appropriate could save your life.
3. If you could go back in time, is there anything that you would do differently online? Think of what advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students.
I wouldn’t do much to change my digital footprint. I stand by everything I have posted and I think it is a positive and accurate representation of me. My advise is to stay true to yourself, and to only post things because you want to, not just to seek validation and praise from others.
