    • Hi Natalie

Thanks for watching my Learning center.
In answer to your question, it has shown me what the sporting world would be like without parasports.

      Have a nice evening.

  3. Hi Matthias
I liked how you included plenty of images to supplement your text, as well as how you related Guttmann’s legacy to us today and gave good reason to why he should be acknowledged. One question, did Guttmann make any other significant contributions to the medical community other than awareness to disability?

    • Hi Kaiwen
Thank you for taking the time to look at my learning center.
In answer to your question, yes he made other significant contributions to the medical community, one of those being changing how people with spinal cord injures were treated and rehabilitated.
      Have a nice evening,
      Matthias

  4. Matthias,
Watching this video reminds me of how much heart and gusto you have for learning, athleticism, conversations and community. Thank you for inviting me to share in your amazing journey of the great Sir Ludwig Guttman! You have given me cause for pause as an educator. I wonder what I can do to answer your questions and comments about inviting more students to lead with heart and to see disabled people (people of colour, Indigenous peoples, women…) as able and equal. I will take action and share your work. I will invite students to ask good questions and to unpack history as a frame of reference for how we got here! Thank you for inspiring me to continue to act, lead and be grateful for my privileges.

P.S. This isn’t good… It’s amazing!! It’s great! You continue to strive for excellence which I love! Keep it up!

  5. Matthias,
I am curious if you are still on the speed track? Have you tried a paralympic sport such as para-rowing? What athletes will you follow and why? Have you considered getting involved in paralympic sports?
What has Sir Ludwig Guttmann taught you about yourself? Has his life inspired you to consider the path your own will take? Good luck and enjoy your journey!
    Ms. Jung

    • Hi Ms. Jung,
Thank you for taking the time to view my learning center.
In answer to your questions: Yes I have tried para-rowing and it is not as easy as it seems it it. I am interested in getting into some form of sports at the Olympics. Sir Guttmann has taught me that I have to do the best with what I have and to have a positive outlook on everything. Yes, he has inspired me to stay on the path I am on and try to do the thing that will do the most good in the world.
      Matthias

  6. Hey Matthias! I really enjoyed watching you videos, I think this was a very unique format. Your learning center was very informative and intriguing. What do you think led Mr. Guttman to use sports as a way of rehabilitation? Was he influenced by anyone?

    Thanks,
    Rian

    • Hi Rian
Thank you for taking the time to view my learning center.
In answer to your question, I believe that Sir Guttmann chose to use sports a method of rehabilitation because it kept the patients out of their beds where they could develop pressure sores and other infections. He was influenced by a Dr. Munro that worked in the U.S. during the 1930s.

  7. Hey Matthias, I really liked the format and organization of your post! It was really easy to follow, and very informative regarding his life story. I was wondering what some qualities or traits about Sir Ludwig are that you particularly admire?
    Bridget

    • Hi Bridget
Thank you for taking the time to view my learning center.
Some of the qualities of Sir Guttmann that I admire is that he took care of all of the patients and would check on them during the night to see if they had been rolled (so that they wouldn’t develop pressure sores), so demonstrating rigorous checking and adapting so that patients would recover faster.
      Thanks, Matthias

  8. Hi Matthias
Sir Ludwig saw past what some would call a limitation. Sports is definitely a way that people come together. Its really great that people are not restricted by their physical disabilities and continue to do what they love. What about Sir Ludwig inspired you? Why did you choose him?

    • Hi Caroline
Thank you for taking the time to view my learning center.
In answer to your question, I chose Sir Ludwig because my mom works with para-athletes on a weekly basis and I have meet many of the people that she works with. If not for his work, para-athletes wouldn’t have their own stage to preform on.
      Thanks, Matthias

    • Hi Ms. Chambers
Thank you for taking the time to look at my learning center.
I was a bit puzzled at first on who to do, but then my mom suggested that I do something that I have felt the impact of and because she coaches para-rowing and I help her at the rowing practices sometimes, I felt that it was an important topic for me.
      Thanks, Matthias

  9. Hi Matthias!

I really enjoyed your learning centre! I think that disabled people are a severely overlooked minority that needs to be taken care of more in our society. Outside of sports, what are some other aspects of disabled people’s lives that could be improved?

    Colin

    • Hi Colin
Thank you for taking the time to look at my learning center.
Some other aspects that people with disabilities struggle with is having buildings built so that they are accessible with wheelchair door buttons, brail on the elevator buttons, and having good lighting for people with vision disablities.
      Thanks, Matthias

  10. Hey Matthias! Great job! The videos were very well done! I was just wondering how you feel that Guttman’s experience as a Jewish person in Nazi Germany inspired his work with folks who might have been considered “underdogs” or “less than” by the people of their time?

  11. Matthias, your designed a very engaging learning centre. I had never heard of your person until now. I am wondering if your eminent person was a mentor for others during his career.
