“Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words.” —Edgar Allan Poe
Words are fascinating.
They create moments of passion and grief, of love and loss. They can take you to the ends of the universe in the blink of an eye. They can lift you higher than your mountains of pain. They can even take you to the deepest dwellings of your mind.
So yeah, words fascinate me. But, I have another fascination—one of story telling and expression.
I want to explore the differences between “I’m fine.” and “I’m fine” and every I’m fine in-between. Because, sometimes, it’s not what you say, but how you say it. That’s what I hope to learn from slam poetry. I want to go further than the words that make me feel like I can fly—to the actions that make me fly.
Learning from an experienced slam poet is something that I’m highly looking forward to. And, because expression is such an important component of life, I hope that, through slam, I can tear through the reins of ‘ordinary’.
