In-depth Introductory Post

For my in-depth project I have decided to learn more about rock climbing. I chose rock climbing because inĀ  the past I have gone climbing at Climb Base 5 gym with friends for fun, and I really enjoyed it, but now I want to learn more about techniques. Another reason that I want to do rock climbing is because I want to stay fit and I thought that climbing would be a fun way to do that. I will be able to improve my strength and endurance will climbing.

My goal is to improve my climbing skills and expand my knowledge of climbing. I specifically want to focus on learning about the different terms used in rock climbing. Throughout the project I also want to improve my grip strength so that I am able to do harder climbs with smaller holds. In the past when I have gone climbing I’ve found that my grip strength held me pack from completing some climbs.

The one obstacle that I am worried about is the cost of drop in gym time, but I have already come up with a few possible solution for it. The climbing gym that I plan on primarily going to has both monthly and yearly passes available for purchase, so hopefully I will be able to buy one. Currently, I am most likely going to get a monthly pass that I can renew throughout the duration of the project. The pass will cost $75 per month which will save me quite a bit of money as I plan on going climbing 1-2 times a week.

I am currently talking with a potential mentor for my project. She was Lauren’s mentor last year when she also did rock climbing. I am hoping that I will be able to confirm her as my mentor soon. She seems to know a lot about climbing and has asked me many different questions about the project which is good, because it shows that she wants to make sure that we would be a good fit to work together. I am hoping to be able to meet with my mentor (once I have one confirmed) at least 2-3 times a month.

Aside from meeting with my mentor I plan on going climbing with other people I know who rock climbing, such as Devon and Tyson. I have gone climbing with them in the past and I found it very useful and I was able to learn a lot from them.

Overall, I am very excited for this project and can’t wait to learn more about rock climbing.
