How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

Many people don’t realize how much of an impact on their lives that posting and commenting on social media has.

What you post or  comment on social media could cause you to lose your job, but it can also help one to get the job they applied for if what they do and say on social media is positive.

If you have lots of connections with people on social media(i.e. CEO’s, people who work where you are applying, etc.), they can help you get jobs and schools.

It can also affect your friendships with people depending on how you act online.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

Be careful about what you post, remember that everyone online can see what you post and everything on your profile. When you create a new account on social media, you should set your profile to private before you post on your profile.

When you post or comment, remember to be kind, helpful and honest about what you say about yourself and other people. Never post anything that is illegal, hurtful, bullying or dishonest.

When you talk to people over chat’s, pretend you are talking face to face. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to someone’s face. Try to notice when you are talking differently online than when you are talking in person.

If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?

I woud probably not install instagram, since it’s honestly just a burden and I think it causes a lot of problems within social groups. I would advise my younger self to not be pressured in to social media and/or joining social groups. If I do have social media already, I would advise myself and other’s about privacy over different platforms to keep things private. I would explain it them by telling them how it could affect their future jobs, friendships and the chance for training. Also I would explain how easily people can access their accounts and “private messages” online.
