Core Competency Reflection

  1. During Quarter 1, what went well for you? Explain. Examples: being back in the classroom, having only two courses, seeing my friends, keeping up with homework, playing volleyball, improving math, helping plan a virtual assembly, becoming more fit.
    1. During Quarter 1, I improved significantly in my Japanese class and had no trouble keeping up this year compared to last year. I’ve enjoyed seeing my friends and talking to everyone again in the classroom. I’ve finally joined a sports club at school, which is volleyball. I’d never done any sort of sports or clubs in school before, so I’m happy to finally join one.
  2. During Quarter 1, what did you find challenging or disappointing or stressfulExplain.
    1. During most of the quarter, I had trouble with keeping track of homework and my own time. I often thought I had enough time to finish assignments, but then I ran out of time and needed to ask for an extension. Until a few weeks in, I wasn’t writing down assignments, so I’d sometimes forget about assignments until they were due, which wasn’t good for me.
  3. Think of ONE thing you really want to improve in Quarter 2 (and Q 3&4). Examplesschool subject, sport, time spent on homework/studying, playing a musical instrument, leadership skills, a language, photography, a relationshipgeneral fitness.
    1. I personally really want to improve my rock climbing. Right now, I often rush and don’t read problems correctly, so I want to improve my reading ability and learn to slow down a little. In climbing I would also like to improve my overall strength for slow and controlled movements because right now I’m good at dynamic and fast movements.
  4. What are two specific actions that you can start doing every day to get closer to your goalHow long will you spend on this action each day? What part of the day?
    1. Reading problems online and seeing if my solution was similar or correct. I would do this in the afternoon for about half an hour each day.
    2. When I’m at the climbing gym,I would like to practice reading problems and then trying to complete them in my first or second attempt. This would be 3 times a week or more in the afternoon for about an hour or more.
  5. If you experience challenges, what might you do to work through them? Examples: ask help from a friend or parentbreak the task into smaller chunks; “google” how other people may deal with similar problems.
    1. I would mostly get help from my coaches and teammates to practice reading problems. I could also have them create problems for me to solve, instead of pre-set climbs.
