Blog post #2: How to have a Beautiful Mind chapters #1-3.

Welcome to my blog post number two which how much I learned and grew in January. I took notes in every meeting I had with my mentor and I will be summarizing it in this post. These notes were taken with the help of a book called “How to have a Beautiful Mind”. I followed the first 3 chapter corresponding to the first 3 weeks. The main idea of the three chapters were how to handle different situations during a communication.

Progress Report.

Since the start of January, I have learned a lot about the mechanism of a car. I have learned the fundamental overview of the engine (which is the most important part of the car, my mentor says) and minor parts as well. Some parts of the engine I learned was how the car produces power, how it gets transmitted, and how it applies on the wheels to allow it for the car to accelerate. I also learned a bit about tire repair and windshield repair. I can now explain a quick summary of the engine. After learning the cylinders and the transmitter and all the other parts makes me think of cars way more differently. For example, I never knew big and small cars had different number of cylinders. Engines are the most compilated part of the car so I will keep learning and growing and look at different types of engines. Some parts I need to work on engine is the actual model. Honestly explaining the engine might be simple but visualizing and drawing the engine in the car is complicating for me. There are just so many tubes and cubes all in one clump. Even though I need more time to sink the 3D model of the engine in my brain I will try keep moving forward. Next, for the tire repair and the windshield repair, these were little things my mentor had put in when we finished earlier. The tire and the windshield repair are simple tasks to do. For the tire repair I learned the different types of treads in the tire, how much air does the tire need to have to properly work, and different types of tools required to take out and on a car. This simple information had made me get more inspiration to learn more. Even checking off these simple tasks for the list expands my knowledge of cars more. Secondly and lastly the windshield repair. One for the easiest parts of the car that can be repaired. What I had to learn was how to take the windshield on and off. Like I said a couple sentences ago these simple parts I learn makes me more knowledgeable. I honestly though cars were simple because there is many of them in the world but thinking more deeper, cars are really complicated and, in my opinion, the most complicated in the world! Next month I think I will keep learning about the engine and the body and how different types of car bodies has a pro and a con.

The book.

This whole In-depth project will be based on the book called “How to have a Beautiful mind” by Edward De Bono. This book talks about all the different aspects of life and the mind to make understanding and working smoother. Each week I did chapters 1-3.

Chapter 1: Agreeing.

For me agreeing isn’t that hard when I am learning something, I had no clue about. I agreed what my mentor had to say. How I agreed with almost everything my mentee had said was communicating with him and having an opened mind. Communicating and having an opened mind made it easier to understand what he had to address to me. For example, in the first week my mentor and I were figuring out a schedule for learning. At first the schedule was messed up, incorrect time schedules and events. But when I first stepped in with an opened mind and communicated with my mentor the schedule got better and I stuck on the schedule till the end of the session.

Chapter 2: disagreeing.

Agreeing with someone can’t always happen and of course that is what happened to me. In the chapter one thing that stood out to me is politeness. I know politeness is a basic characteristic everyone needs to have. Being polite during a mixture of emotions can be hard but there is still a way disagreeing can happen smoothly. For example, when my mentor said that the engine was the most important part of the car, I simple disagreed because that wasn’t my thinking. I though the body of the car was the most important part because the engine wouldn’t do anything if it didn’t give a source to give its power to. At first when my mentor said that I interrupted what he had to say and quickly said my thoughts. At first it felt good getting my opinions out, but he wasn’t that happy for me interrupting. But I remember what the book said so I quickly apologised and tried the scenario over again but politely. I ended up very well and my mentor agreed with me as well with an opened mind.

Chapter 3: differing.

Honestly differing is a good thing in my opinion because everyone has their own way to do motions. People usually call it unique of special. In my opinion differing in a new situation is hard because you need to think of something new and stick with it when everyone else is doing something else. In this part od the chapter I don’t have any examples because I was just learning, and I haven’t found a different way just yet. I really do feel like me and my mentor have the same mind. Anyways until I get use to actions that are needed to be takin in cars I will try to be different and accept the differential fact.
