1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

Your future opportunities like getting into schools or getting a job could be affected by photos you post, and even comments and things you say online. When posting pictures and comments online it can be beneficial. Like if your posts show your interests and have nothing bad to them people can see what you like and it can possibly allow them to see a great side of you. However, if your social media or gaming reflects negatively on you, like cyberbullying or inappropriate posts that will not be beneficial.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

  • Make sure there are no addresses in the background of posts or signs if close to your house.
  • Keep your Usernames general and appropriate, so you don’t regret them later.
  • Remember that anything you say or post online is out there for good, even if you deleted them.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?

I have been usually cautious when it comes to my digital footprint, but one thing I would change would be my usernames/ account names. One thing that you want to make sure when it comes to a good digital footprint is not posting or having anything embarrassing. I find that some of my usernames can be a little childish, so some advice would think about 5-10 years in the future. Think “would this be embarrassing later?” and it will really help with your decisions.
