So What Are My Thoughts on High School? How Does it Compare to Middle School? What did I expect? What Surprised Me?

 

High school was a completely different experience I had compared to Middle School. I didn’t expect high school to feel so huge and I didn’t think I can navigate it. Luckily I am now able to navigate the entire school. I really didn’t think I would meet anyone i’d know but I actually met people I used to hang out with during Middle School which made me feel pleasantly Surprised.

I love how there are many clubs i can join which can help me feel more welcomed and accepted.  Currently I am thinking about joining the debate club and participating more. I really wonder if there is a art club. I

love the fact i can choose my courses and what classes I can take because I get to learn what i want in some blocks. While in Middle School, unfortunately I dont have a choice in what courses i want to take. I hope things can get better from here.

There is more homework and more assignments to do than before compared to Middle School. Even though I can finish these assignments and homework in 30-50 minutes. I tend to procrastinate until the last minute. Thats not a good thing so I’m currently working on my procrastination issue.

Overall, my First year at Gleneagle was pretty nice. I had a good experiences and met some nice people, and some jerks along the way. I hope things can get better from here.

How was my technology usage this year? How Am I Using it Differently Now? How  Has My Technology Habits Change? What New Digital Skills Have I Gained?

Overall my technology use stays similar to how I did in Middle School.

If given the choice between writing notes on paper or my device, I would usually write in my paper but if it was a worksheet, it would be the other way around.

Ive been using a lot of Powerpoint in Marketing and Entrepreneur 9. I learned how I can use gifs  to make your presentation stand out and look more fun as we go. Im surprised that how much planning, scripting, designing, and researching I had to do along with my group to get things done for a good grade. I also learned that limiting words on each slide is also important because we want the presentation to be easy to understand and we can just explain more in detail in speaking.

Throughout the year we used Canva time to time which was quite easy and simple to use. I like how even though its simple, it can really create professional infographics and how informative it can be.

I still get distracted on my device time to time due to the fact I get under-stimulated or bored off. The good news is, I am making progress in terms of my distracted tendencies. I am looking forward to learning other ways I can use Technology and learn to use other software I never heard about.

What were my strongest core competencies this year?

 

One of the Core Competencies I believe i am strong at is Personal Identity. I think Personal Identity is one of my strongest core competencies because of how I am more independent compared to me before High School.

Even though I still need help on my assignments, I need them way less than I needed them during elementary and middle school.

I am able to take a ride on the skytrain to head to school with my own compass card without any trouble. However, I lost my first compass card which showed my irresponsibility. The good news is, My dad allowed me to have another compass card  but this would be the last compass card I get. The second chance gave me the opportunity to mature more and be more responsible for my own belongings.

These changes in my life showed how much my character developed as an individual and how i continue to grow more. My personal growth represents my Personal Identity.

Another Core Competency I believe is strong is Communication. I believe Communication is one of my strongest core competencies because I am able to articulate my ideas and thoughts clearly and easy to understand.

An example of this is when I’m asked questions during social studies during the current issue presentations.

More examples of these include the times I shared how we can improve our presentation during marketing and entrepreneur classes and how I was able to communicate with my group clearly on how we can finish the Science Podcast Project and how we still have a chance even though we are overdue due to situational reasons.

 

What is one core competency that I could improve on?

 

A core competency I can improve on is my Personal Awareness and Responsibility.

I would like to improve on my Personal Awareness and Responsibility because even though my communication and social life drastically improved, I can get pretty opinionated at the wrong places and time which can cause unwanted attention and conflicts which can ruin my social life and possibly affect my life negatively.

My excessive talking and unawareness of my surroundings caused me to get bullied and harassed which was evident during math class in term one.

I tend to be socially reclusive to most people which can cause way more bullying issues than before because of the fact I’m lonely, so therefore its easier to bully me and its easier to get away with it.

 

In conclusion, High school is such a new experience for me and many things that happened in my life i didn’t expect. I am proud of my personal growth and maturity and how much i learned so far. I hope I Have a great high school life and have a successful life.
