In-Depth, My Journey Through Volleyball: Finale

Congratulations! You picked the most entertaining In-Depth blog post to view (which was naturally going to be mine)!

I hope you’ve been enjoying your evening so far! Although the other projects don’t match up to the sheer quality of mine, they are all still worth a view. There is something so satisfying about watching progress in a short amount of time.

Now, you can sit here reading a long paragraph where I introduce my project and talk about my growth, or we can just cut right into the chase. I don’t have you all night, so let’s take the time you’ve given me and use it well.

For those who don’t know, my name is Gyu Min Jang! I’m a grade 10 TALONS learner, and I had the genius idea of pursuing volleyball for my In-Depth project this year! And because my idea was so incredibly smart, I had to grab a partner in crime as well. Devon Brooks (TALONS 10/The handsome gentlemen on the left) and I worked together with Mr. Salisbury (TALONS teacher/Gleneagle volleyball coach/Very very tall) to learn and play as much volleyball as we could in the past six months! Just below, you will find the final product of all our hard work in one, easy to access video. So without further ado, enjoy my final In-Depth presentation!

If you had any questions, compliments, or insults that you would like to give me, please feel free to comment on this post! I will try my best to answer throughout the night.

  1. Entertaining for sure. So you! What is next? Are you going to continue to play? If so, why?scud clam

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, of course, I’ll still be playing for many more months to come! This is only the beginning for me. In-Depth has made me fall in love with everything volleyball, so I don’t see myself losing passion anytime soon. The process of getting better is such a rewarding one, and the connections that I’ve made through my experiences make it all the more worthwhile. scud clam

  2. Super entertaining and well-edited video, Volleyball Brotherss! Haikyuu!! is a major inspiration for my love of volleyball too. You both did awesome! Especially with beach volleyball; that sand does NOT make it easy to jump. What is your favourite type of serve and favourite type of set? And if you were a position on a volleyball team, what would it be?

    1. Thank you, Michelle!!! The sand was pretty difficult to work around, but I’m pretty sure I can run at lightspeed indoors now. My favorite type of serve would have to be any good floater. It’s so satisfying to see the ball go over the net and drop unexpectedly. My favorite type of set? The ones that I’m able to hit. Not picky about them since I’m still trying to figure out how to spike in general. And in terms of position, I would love to play outside hitter.

      1. Nice! Floaters are cool, I saw you had a couple with very little spin. That’s super hard to do in 5 months so major props to you! Enjoy the rest of In-Depth! Maybe I’ll see you on the court sometime (just kidding, I’m trash at Volleyball. Doesn’t mean I don’t love it!)

  3. TEAM MJ!!! Alsoamazing tutorial Gyu Min, truly inspiring. You could say your presentation was a Slam Dunk! … Wait wrong sport.

    1. Thank you so much Colby! I loved your video on reading books as well! Oh wait, wrong mundane activity…

  4. YOOOO AMAZING VIDEO DUDE. Totally worth the extensive amount of clips you had to work with. Hilarious as always, and it looks like you guys made a lot of great progress. I have to say MJ really outshined both of you though. scud clam

    1. Haha I’m glad that my work paid off! Thank you so much! Also, MJ was easily the best part of that video; you saw how much I cheered (or screamed) after his spike.

  5. Yep, it’s official. MJ is now best volleyball player too. Sorry, I don’t make the rules. Really good job and fun video. scud clam

  6. Gyu Min, I must say your video is spectacular. Thank you so much for the last 6 months, they were amazing and I’m very glad we ended up doing this. Volleyball brotherss for life

    1. Our video* Devon. I could not be happier with everything that we’ve done up until now. VOLLEYBALL BROTHERS UNTIL ONE OF US DIES TO A VOLLEYBALL.

      1. Yes yes how could I mix up the words, our video is gorgeous. It was so much fun. VOLLEYBALL BROTHERS UNTIL THE END

  7. Gyu Min your cracked. Almost as cracked as MJ… Video was great, I really liked the demonstrations. They were very delightful. Question: How do you make it so the volleyball doesn’t kill your arms? Whenever I play volleyball, my arms/hands get super red and it gives me owies.

    1. Thank you so much for the comments Ben! To be honest with you, my arms are still sore every once in a while after playing volleyball. You just get numbed to the pain after time haha. Red forearms are just normal to me now. You fight through ittt

  8. Top notch editing! So fun to watch, and I hope you had just as much fun learning/playing volleyball!

    1. Thanks so much Glen! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I had so much fun through the entire process, so this final video was just a cherry on top.

  9. Well….. that was really something! From volleyball zeros to volleyball heroes, the transformation is complete! Well done volleyball brothers, well done!

    1. Hopefully that something was a good something! Thank you so much for your dedication as our mentor Mr. Salisbury! We couldn’t have done it without you. This is only the beginning for the volleyball brothers.

    1. Ahh thank you so much Brianna! I hope you had fun watching it :)) (it was most certainly a lot of work)

  10. I already know the dedication you had to this project – “Hey, what are your plans for today?”
    “Volleyball!”

The editing is immaculate and your personality really shows through it. What a good way to stay active and learn some awesome skills during such a depressing time?

    I only have one question…

What the heck is a Scud Clam?

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed it Yunmin! The editing definitely made a Gyu Min video to say the least, so hopefully you were able to watch it without getting bored. Volleyball was honestly such an amazing decision and addition to my life, so I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon!

    1. Thank you so much, Simran! All these lovely comments do make me very happy! Feels like things really did pay off.

  11. Gyu Min, I loved watching the video and seeing you and Devon’s volleyball journey! And scud clam 🙂

  12. I loved your video! That MJ guy really carried that entire video though. What was your favourite volleyball move to practice and why?

    1. Thank you so much Myung Joon Cho! Yeah, that MJ guy really was something, especially when he wasn’t spiking Gyu Min’s beautiful sets. My favorite volleyball move would have to be the spike, as basic as it sounds. You can’t beat the feeling of the ball hitting your hand at the right place at the right time.

  13. Comedy and volleyball! Love the obvious chemistry between the two of you. You were able to keep the mood light but also really unpack all the essential skills to be a volleyball brother!

  14. Hey Gyu Min!
Hmm I’m a little late to comment but uh…

WOWIE WOWOW such a dope video! Editing = on POINT. I’m glad to see that you’re still playing volleyball and growing that passion you have for the sport. Truly admirable :)) Volleyball really do be a part of your identity now. Can’t wait to watch you play tournaments in the near future! I’ll be your biggest fan! scud clam.
