1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.
The impacts of harmful digital footprints will significantly affect future opportunities. Academically, college admissions and scholarship selections will often check into the online presence of their applicants and consider social media profiles as an aspect of selection. Oversharing will also invite identity theft as any photo and personal information is a serious liability and will have dangerous liabilities.
2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
- Don’t overshare
- Demonstrate digital citizenship
- Create strong passwords
3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?
I’m usually careful about my digital footprint and only share my status with people I know in real life; therefore, I wouldn’t really change anything drastically.
