In-Depth Night 2021

Hey everyone! My name is Makenna, and I am a grade 9 TALONS learner.

This year for my in-depth project, I focused on the interior design of a tiny home. My goal for in-depth this year was to create a complete interior design of a tiny home. I feel that I was very successful in reaching my goal, and if you would like to learn more about my tiny home project check out the PowerPoint here!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my in-depth post! Feel free to leave any comments or questions below.

Hi Makenna..this is from Ms. Dissegna…she could not comment so here it is!

Please let Makenna know that I loved her Tiny Home project. I don’t seem to be allowed to post like I can on the other projects (hers wants me to log in). If you want to forward this to her, I’d love to know what the most challenging and most rewarding part of this project experience was for her😊

Thanks for the comment! One of the most challenging parts of my project was trying to learn as much as I could so I could come out with a complete design. It was challenging because there is so much to learn and the deeper I got into this topic, the more I wanted to know. The most rewarding part of my project was seeing how far I have come. In the beginning I had little knowledge on the subject, and now when I look at the final product I can see how much I have learned and actually accomplished.

Thanks Makenna! This must have been so fun to work through…like designing your dream home! I chose the same flooring as you…I agree that it is light and opens up the space. What software did you use to do you plans? What additional considerations are in place for a tiny home v/s a conventional home when designing? Your aesthetic is cool!

It definitely was, I had a blast designing this tiny home! When creating my space plan, I actually drew it by hand. My mentor believed that if I knew how to do it by hand I could apply those skills and learn how to use a software if I wanted to. When designing a tiny home you really need to make sure you are making the most of every centimeter. In a conventional home, you would have more space, so you may not need to spend as much time picking out furniture. When choosing every piece of furniture I for the tiny house, I had to look at the dimensions and see what would fit best and make the most out of the space.

    Makenna!
Your tiny house design is the coolest!
I loved how you showed your process for choosing each element of your tiny home. Your sense of organization and style is amazing. (:
Just wait, you’ll have people coming up to you asking you to design them a tiny house in no time!!

Wow, this is so cool!! Your design has such good vibes, and your PowerPoint is extremely informative and well-done. I learned a lot about what goes into designing a tiny home, and I love your taste in furniture. The combo washer/dryer is so cool, too. Would you live in a tiny home when you’re older?

    • Makenna

Thanks Bana! I think living in a tiny home when I am older would be cool! Even if it is not long-term I would like to try it at least once.

    Hi Makenna,
I was wondering if you learned anything about the tiny home movement and why people are choosing these?

Thanks for the intriguing question! I did not spend much time researching the tiny home movement during the span of this project, but I did learn a little bit. Many people choose tiny homes to live a more simple and affordable way of life. The tiny home movement is similar to the idea of downsizing, but to a greater extent. Living in a tiny home also helps people minimize their environmental footprint. Overall, choosing a tiny home gives individuals more freedom to intentionally choose their way of life, whatever that may be.
