Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

If you have a negative digital footprint, you might end up impacting your ability to get employed for example. If you were being rude to someone online and your potential employer sees that, chances are they wouldn’t want to give you a job. However, if your digital footprint is a positive one, you might have people approach you with new opportunities and chances. They might see from your social media that you are help out at animal shelters, so someone might approach you with a volunteer opportunity. Your digital footprint can be a poster board for who you are. So it’s best to have a safe one.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

  1. For social media, don’t post anything that incriminates you or someone else
  2. Don’t look up anything that you would feel the need to hide
  3. Keep all personal information to yourself

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything that you would do differently online? Think of what advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students.

Advice I would pass on to other students is to remember that deleting online doesn’t truly delete. So if whatever you’re doing might be something you’d want to delete later on, just don’t do it.
