How To Be A REAL Success (Hanson)

Welcome to another of my assignment blog posts referring to the workbook “How To Be A REAL Success by John C. Maxwell”

Relationships

One fundamental step to adding value to other people is to make yourself more valuable

The fundamental beginning of fostering any meaningful and bonding relationship is the first interaction, why would they decide to approach you and not somebody else? Because they saw values in you that other people don’t. See if you agree, First, a good relationship is equal, meaning you both want to help each other overcome their obstacles. Secondly, a good relationship is useful, meaning that you both can help each other. Third, a good relationship is filled with character, it is what creates memories in relationships, you have to be a person and also treat others as people. To make yourself valuable to other people, you would have to be competent in either your work values or your character values. Work values include skills, are you knowledgeable in subjects, are you skillful in subjects, are you consistent in subjects, are you creative in subjects, are you reliable in subjects, etc. It is about what physical abilities you have that can benefit other people. Character values include bonding traits such as common interests, humour, the things that make you a person. It is about how much happiness and memories you can create with each other. Ask yourself, what uniqueness does your friend have, what do you like the most about them, and how have they helped you overcome your obstacles. The reason I chose to elaborate on this subject is that I believe that there is room for everyone to grow their values. Either if they study more about what they are passionate about, or how they can improve their heart to benefit others, there are endless possibilities with improving your values. For me, I want to improve my understanding of my interest in architecture, and share my knowledge and thinking with like-minded people, I would also like to improve my overall habits and actions allowing people to feel more reliable with me helping them. Thus could be applied to my leadership activities by surrounding my actions through a knowledgeable mind about leadership and being more available to help peers around me.

Equipping

The law of Mount Everest is about emphasizing the importance of gathering and growing a team to accomplish anything big

A confident and knowledgeable team of like-minded people, as well as non-like minded people, will create a variety of skill sets and perspectives on a goal you are wishing to achieve. Having the right people at the right times is fundamental for your success in reaching your goal, not only providing more reliability but also more excitement as well. Although it might be tempting to achieve something and announce to everyone you did it by yourself, there should be a team that builds the backbone for your success. Having a good team means that you all have goals, you all have plans, and you all can help each other. Building a team that has diversity, similarities, communication, conflicts, trust, and respect will allow you to deepen your understanding and deepen your experience, seeing problems from different perspectives and open your eyes to more possibilities and opportunities. I specifically wanted to emphasize this because I lack cooperation with other great talents and should incorporate this into my workflow, I believe that I trust the do it only by myself too much because I want control over my work, but at the same time, I lose sight of how much more I could’ve learned if I contacted mentors, made friends, and created competition. I trust that I can incorporate this into my leadership activities by acting to build a team to identify what I can learn from them and in return how I can benefit them as well. This team will allow me to approach projects and overall learn from a deepened perspective.

Attitude

“Our attitude determines our approach to life.”

I believe that attitude is a very powerful value that anyone may adopt, it is at another level far beyond skill or knowledge, but rather combines your personality with your skillsets to create an overall workflow that affects everything you do. Either if it’s how you approach a problem, or how you make a decision, everything is affected by your attitude. Attitude is not something that you can particularly “improve” it drives your thinking, it is like a habit that reflects on your perspective and thinking. Thus, your attitude is reflected by your behaviours, meaning that your everyday reaction to something drives your attitude towards everything else. I chose to elaborate more on attitude because I believe I can choose my attitude, by encouraging myself to improve on my work habits and explore new perspectives on how to see something, I can then “improve” my attitude towards everything else I do.

“I have the power to take the first step into creating a long-lasting habit that drives my thinking called attitude.”

In leadership, your attitude drives the decisions that affect everyone else in your team, having a good work attitude allows you to think in the mind of a leader, have the will to help others, and to be confident in yourself, thus being confident in leading the ones around you too. In activities and trips, my attitude controls my perspective on the opportunity, do I see it as an opportunity to learn something? Or do I simply enjoy the bit of rest and cutting off information for a bit, your attitude is a choice, your decisions depend on your perspectives and habits.

Leadership

“We overestimate the event and we underestimate the process”

We should be more concerned about the process than the result. When actors try to win an Oscar, do they daydream about themselves on the stage and figure out what inspiring thing to say? Or do they work on improving the skills that will help them achieve that goal? Even if they don’t ever achieve that goal, they will be proud of the countless skills they have obtained in the process in which they can keep forever and build off from. Improving the law of process meaning to focus on the present, notice what obstacles hold you back right now, and what you can do to improve yourself. I chose to elaborate on this subject of improving the law of process because I think that there are endless things that we can do to improve our process, and because of that, the process is our success. The truth is, that if you are not satisfied with your process, you are not going to be satisfied with your final product. There are endless ways of improving your process, and there is no good or bad, right or wrong process, we make mistakes in our process, we learn from them, we succeed in our process, we learn from them, in the end, we create our process, and that is the one that shapes our work. When leading others, processes should be emphasized, it is the little things, how you make suggestions to people, how you take a denial, or how you are going to work our a conflict, all of which are good for your progress, but you have to value your process. Especially when planning trips, really understand all of the elements that affect the trips, come up with a clear and organized plan, lastly, execute it with confidence and control.
