Gleneagle School-wide Core Competency Assignment (Nov 18, 2020)

1. During Quarter 1, what went well for you? Examples: being back in the classroom, having only two courses, seeing my friends, keeping up with homework, playing volleyball, improving math, helping plan a virtual assembly, becoming more fit

During Quarter 1, I was able to keep up with the accelerated pace introduced by the quarter system, along with adapting to the changed workflow of high school. The accelerated and improved instructions have allowed me to slowly build a better habit of organization. Skills such as time management, fortunately, came naturally for me, therefore giving me a consistent streak of mostly handing things in on time.

2. During Quarter 1, what did you find challenging or disappointing or stressful? Explain

During Quarter 1, approaching the quarter system and the accelerated instructions did not come naturally. Accelerated instructions were easy to miss, therefore I had to learn to juggle multiple things at once. Above that, the skills required for high school were challenging and I needed time to adapt. These experiences were obstacles that I overcame but were also challenging.

3. Think of ONE thing you really want to improve in Quarter 2 (and Q 3&4). Examples: a school subject, a sport, time spent on homework/studying, playing a musical instrument, leadership skills, a language, photography, a relationship, general fitness.

I think the main subject I want to improve on is simply to get more on top of things, try to reduce the number of mistakes taken, but also learning from those mistakes to reduce repeated mistakes. This also means to improve time management, improve organization, improve productivity, so much for one quarter. Overall, developing the skill of “being comfortable with being uncomfortable”, and adapting as fast and as easily as possible.

4. What are two specific actions that you can start doing every day to get closer to your goal? How long will you spend on this action each day? What part of the day?

One action to better improve my organizational skills is to be more focused in class, this means listening carefully to important information when provided and taking notes to secure the information from being forgotten. This will be done in class for the whole duration.

I will also start to manage my time at home more wisely, and trying to get assignments done as fast as possible. This will be done at home during both school and free time and taking an extended time to also improve the quality of the work.

5. If you experience challenges, what might you do to work through them? Examples: ask help from a friend or parent; break the task into smaller chunks; “google” how other people may deal with similar problems.

First, I would analyze the problem, what are the elements which I don’t understand or are not within my abilities? Second, I would seek help or instructions from instructors, friends, or even myself. Sometimes the answer is in the details, so it would be wise to review all the resources given to me and make sure it is a valuable question to ask. Lastly, I act immediately, monitoring the process and finding places of improvement in which I can make further improvement.
