Core Competency Quarter 1 reflection

  1. During Quarter 1, what went well for you? Explain.

During quarter one what went well for me was I was able to maintain a high grade in science and was also able to fully understand majority of the concepts and get a final grade I was happy with.

2.During Quarter 1, what did you find challenging or disappointing or stressful? Explain.

I found that having both math and science was very stressful as they were both very major classes and having them both in one quarter caused me to get a very low grade in math as usually I struggle with math to begin with so adding a crazy amount of homework daily to the mix dragged my average down.

3. Think of ONE thing you really want to improve in Quarter 2 (and Q 3&4). Examples: a school subject, a sport, time spent on homework/studying, playing a musical instrument, leadership skills, a language, photography, a relationship, general fitness.

During Quarter two I really want to work on my study habits and work ethic as they are not going to last as I rely on my general knowledge to get me through each course and I also end up completing every assignment very last minute. So I really want to build a good work ethic that will help me throughout my high school career, I also want to start volunteering this year.

4. What are two specific actions that you can start doing every day to get closer to your goal? How long will you spend on this action each day? What part of the day?

I can start doing my assignments the day I get them and also taking more time to review concepts before a big test and just being more organized in general and getting my stuff together in the evening.

5. If you experience challenges, what might you do to work through them? Examples: ask help from a friend or parent; break the task into smaller chunks; “google” how other people may deal with similar problems.

If I experience challenges, I usually break it down into smaller chunks and give myself a reasonable deadline to get the smaller chunks done.

Digital Literacy Final Assessment

  1. My thoughts on remote learning have been very positive, my grades have gone up and my stress level is pretty much non-exisistant, I have lots of time to get my work done while at the same time I am able to take the time for myself and also enjoy more time with family and a few friends while social distancing of course.
  2. technology has benefited me and I think everyone else in this remote learning experience because without it I personally think there wouldn’t be a remote learning opportunity to begin with.
  3. Technology has impeded me because in the classroom I have a teacher supervising me throughout the class so its hard to become un focused or get off task without being told to go back to my work and at home I don’t have that so I really have to concentrate, also technology has its flaws as does everything so sometimes the wifi has its malfunctions and soemtimes on online classes it cuts off
  4. One core competency that has helped me during this time is critical thinking as I am a very critical thinker and when I was in school it was very hard to get on top of my school work and hand in the very best quality of work but now I can because I have plenty of Time to get my work done and produce my very best work.
  5. One core competency I have developed over this time is personal awareness and responsibility as I do not have a teacher constantly telling me to get my homework in so I have to remember myself and be independent and get my work done even if I don’t feel like it.

My Infographic in science 9 reflection post

The assignment that I am reflecting on for semester 1 is my infographic in my science honours class, is my infographic which I did on Canadas meat intake and how it affects the environment it also included methane gas and how cows when burping release it into the environment and why it could be a cause for global warming or some aspects of it. I was able to bring creative thinking  and critical thinking into creating and designing this project and some challenges I faced were being able too think of an idea that not many other people did so it was an original idea and also finding information on my topic because it wasn’t a very common topic.

Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

For example, you could potentially harm your chances of getting into your chosen university due to a tweet that you thought was harmless but instead damaged your future. Also it could be the same thing with a picture you posted in high school that might have been appropriate at the time but when you apply for a job they may not think the same when they find it on the internet.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

You could not post anything that would be considered bullying or even something that could be considered negative about someone else online, you could also think will this post be harming my safety or the safety of others around me. The last one is would you be okay with your grandmother seeing your post or tweet? if not, you should most likely not post something like that on the internet for the whole world to see.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?

If there had to be some advice I could pass on to other students, it would definitely be don’t post anything that could harm yourself or your future because on the internet anything you say or post can be used against you negatively if it isn’t appropriate.
