Core Competency Reflection

QUESTIONS:

1. During Quarter 1, what went well for you? Explain. Examples: being back in the classroom, having only two courses, seeing my friends, keeping up with homework, playing volleyball, improving math, helping plan a virtual assembly, becoming more fit.

Learning Japanese was something new to me. I personally think it went well and I learned a lot of new words and phrases as the language was new to me. Another thing that was good was meeting new people. I went to Maple Creek Middle school, as most of the students either went to Pinetree, Charles Best, or Terry fox, when I came to Glen Ragle I didn’t know many people, other than a few students that came from Maple Creek as well. Dispute this I was able to make a lot of new relationships with my peers from the Talons program, Volleyball, and Japanese.

2. During Quarter 1, what did you find challenging or disappointing or stressfulExplain.

One thing I found challenging/stressful was adjusting to my new schedule. At the beginning of the year, I got approved to have carpooling and my schedule was flipped to Tuesdays and Fridays opposed to Monday’s and Thursdays. During the first half of the quarter the schedule was fine. But when we switched, and I had Japanese on Monday and Thursday mornings, and leadership before school on Tuesdays, I had to figure out how to plan that out. Eventually I made a plan and it all worked out.

3. Think of ONE thing you really want to improve in Quarter 2 (and Q 3&4). Examplesschool subject, sport, time spent on homework/studying, playing a musical instrument, leadership skills, a language, photography, a relationshipgeneral fitness.

One goal that I have is to work on and complete my homework earlier than I do now. Often, I’ll end up saving projects and/or assignments until a few days before its due. I want to improve my ability to finish my homework earlier on, or spread it out evenly, so I can relax and not be stressed on night or few nights before its due.

4. What are two specific actions that you can start doing every day to get closer to your goalHow long will you spend on this action each day? What part of the day?

a)I will use my calendar app more often to be more organized and know what I have coming up.

b)After school I will address what I put on my calendar app and see need to do, to then plan out when and how I will do it.

5. If you experience challenges, what might you do to work through them? Examples: ask help from a friend or parentbreak the task into smaller chunks; “google” how other people may deal with similar problems.

If I am ever addressed with a challenge that is school-related, I know that I have many options that will lead to a positive outcome. The first thing that I can do is ask my classmates, I have most of their contact information and can also contact them through, emails, and an online platform called Discord. Another option I have is emailing my teacher to ask for clarification or help when I need it.
