Welcome to my in-depth presentation. Over the past few months, I have been learning about game design!
When I initially began my In-Depth learning, I did not expect that there are so many components to game design. Through this project, I learned various things from programming 2D games to creating game assets for 3D games. I still have a lot to learn.
Using Unity, a game engine, and Blender, a 3D graphics software, I have created multiple games over the past few months, starting with basic 2D games, to more complex 2D and 3D games. Here are 3 video games that I made that will demonstrate my learning and growth. Enjoy the games!
(Games are only available on the computer)
Game 1: Drift
This was a really basic 3D game that I created to learn programming and 3D physics in Unity. (I think I made the levels too hard!π )
2. Wandering Spirit
I made this game about a month ago. I made this simple 2D game to practice the skills that I have learned so far, and I’m pretty satisfied with how it turned out!
3. Islandbound
This is the game that I have worked on for the last month. For this game, I had to learn more about 3D game design and many new components. I am still working on this game, and this is a preview! (Note: this game cannot run on Safari)

I hope you had some fun playing the games that I developed! Over the course of In-Depth, I learned so much about game design. This is something that I’m truly passionate about, and I will keep on learning… The journey has just begun!
I want to give a huge thank you to Mr. Linburg, my mentor. Through this entire project, he has provided me with a lot of support and encouragement. Without his amazing guidance, I would not have been able to come this far. I would also like to thank you for checking out my in-depth project! Feel free to leave a comment or ask any questions!

Mike!! These games are so fun and addicting. I can’t beat level 4 on Drift. π
Thanks for playing! Yeah, level 4 is really hard π
I love the wandering spirit game concept! (it’s also extremely fun to play).
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the game!
Hi Mike, Fun games! Way to go!
Thanks for playing!
The last game is Very fun! If I were to give a small bit of feedback, it would be to maybe add a way of knowing if you are taking damage
Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you had fun playing the game!
Fun Games! Which was your favourite to create?
Thank you! I definitely had a lot of fun making all three of the games, but I think Wandering Spirit was the most fun for me to create, as it was an interesting challenge to code.
Hi Mike, I love the Wandering Spirit game! Itβs so fun and I like the color too.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the game!
Your games are really fun – Wandering Spirit is my favourite π You’re really talented!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you had fun playing my game. I’ll continue to learn more about game development!
Thanks for adding these interactive components. Our guests are enjoying them. What was the hardest part of this project and why?
I would say the hardest part of this project was getting familiar with using various softwares. A lot of different softwares are involved when developing games, and it was challenging at first to learn to use all of the different softwares. However, by taking a step back and learning the basics of each software, I was able to become familiar with using them. Thanks for the question!
I had so much fun playing Drift! Great work!
Thanks for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed.
Love them! I can’t wait to see what becomes of your WIP islandbound, but it looks promising. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the encouragement! It means a lot to me. I will keep on working on the game! π
Hello Mike,
I really enjoyed playing drift I stopped at level 5. For the 3D treasure hunting game, I liked how you added a fall damage feature to the game. I look forward to seeing more of your creations in the future!
Thanks for playing! π Level 5 is really hardπ . I will definitely continue to make more games in the future!
Your games are seriously addicting and your In-Depth is super cool
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed playing!
Your games are awesome! (And also really addictive). Keep up the good work, Mike!
Thanks dude! I will definitely keep on making games in the future π
One of the most entertaining projects I’ve viewed! I loved the game concepts for drift and wandering spirit. Were the ideas original or did you get inspiration from other games?
I’m glad you enjoyed the games! For the making of drift, I looked up tutorials on YouTube for inspiration and ideas. Wandering Spirit was an original idea that just popped into my head one day. Thanks for asking! π
These games are amazing. Could I do anything like this ever? NO! But level 4 is quite the challenge.
Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed. As long as you have the passion, you can also learn how to developed a game! Also yeah level 4 is very hard π
The games you made are incredible Mike! I had so much fun playing them!
Thank you π ! Iβm glad you enjoyed them!
Is the location of the treasure in the Islandbound game randomly generated?
Currently it is located at a set position. In the future, I’ll look into how to randomly generate the chest location with making the game too difficult or too easy. Thanks for the question!
Mike, you are such a talented person! Your games are so fun – I really enjoyed them!
Aw thanks! I’m glad you had fun playing the games!
I am wondering how you dealt with frustration when the programming did not work the way you wanted it to?
Good question! When programming games, a lot of errors will occur. I would experiment and tinker around with the code, and sometimes that will solve the problem. If I still can’t resolve the issue, I would watch videos on YouTube to try to find a solution. Sometimes, it can get frustrating if I can’t find a solution, but would take a break and return to the problem with a fresh mindset. Debugging is definitely a big part of programming games and I’ve grown to enjoy it!
Mike your games are all so fun and addicting! Even though Drift is very simple, it is still my favourtie! I might spend so time trying to beat all the levels… if that’s even possible…
π Thanks Ben! Glad you had fun playing! Also don’t worry all the levels are beatable… although they are pretty hard! π
Great games, I especially like drift, even though it is simple, its still really addictive.
Yo thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed the playing the games!
Your games are super well made! I must confess I wasn’t able to get past level 4 on drift though.
Thanks for playing! Yeah, I think I made level 4 too hardπ
Nice are you going to continue working after in-depth?
Yeah! I’m going to continue to learn more about game development! π
This is so cool Mike! Your games are really addicting and I really enjoyed “Drift.” Well done.
Thanks Simran! I’m glad you had fun playing the games. π
All of your games are really cool! Shorebound just brought a smile to my face almost the entire time! I don’t know what, but there’s something really special that I love about all of your games. I hope you continue to make games in the future!
Thanks so much MJ! I’m glad you had fun playing the games. I’ll definitely continue to create more games in the future! π
Wow, these games are impressive! Super fun and engaging! How long did each game take you to make? Are you planning on pursuing game design in the future as a career? Great work!
Thank you! Drift took about one week to make, while Wandering Spirit was made in three days. The creation of Islandbound was more complicated, as it was a 3D game. I think I worked on it for about 3 weeks, and I am continuing to add more components to the game. I have considered game design as a career in the future, but I’m not sure yet. Thanks for asking! π
I’m kind of addicted to the Drift game, even though I can’t get past level 1 π Your project is so amazing!
Thanks for playing Emma! I’m glad you had fun playing the game! Don’t give up~ you can beat level 1! π
