Digital Footprint Assignment

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

My digital footprint might affect my future opportunities through the way I present myself online. If I want to apply for a job or university, the employer or school may want to take a look at my past social media activity to find out if my past posts reflection the school/job well. If the posts I make create a positive environment for the community, they will most likely consider me as a candidate. In contrast, if they see me post anything hateful on social media, they would keep that in mind when accounting me as a candidate.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

To keep myself safe, I can limit the amount of personal information I share on social media and regularly change my passwords. Limiting the amount of personal information really helps keep your digital footprint safer, because if you put too much information, other people can use that information to make you feel unsafe and threatened. Regularly changing my passwords will reduce the chances of an unexpected login happening in a device or account. The last strategy that I can use is to be careful on what links I am clicking on. Analyzing the URL carefully can sometimes uncover clues that the website is not trustworthy.

3. If you could go back in time, is there anything that you would do differently online? Think of what advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students.

If I could go back in time, I don’t think I wouldn’t do anything differently. I have been very careful about my digital footprint since my parents taught me a lot about safety online and how to identify untrustworthy sources/scams.
