Grit Scale: 2.80

During Quarter 1, what went well for you? Examples: being back in the classroom, having only two courses, seeing my friends, keeping up with homework, playing volleyball, improving math, helping plan a virtual assembly, becoming more fit.

During the first quarter, I was able to learn a lot. The quarter system made all subjects really dense. Although, I found it to be effective. When the things that I learn are spread out, it becomes easy to forget. Everything was done so quickly, that everything I learned sort of stuck to me. I also think that the online portion went well. Online class was nice because I always had my resources with me because I was at my house. During class sessions, it was nice to have people around me. I could easily ask questions and communicate with the teacher.

During Quarter 1, what did you find challenging or disappointing or stressful? Explain.

What I found to be stressful was the workload. Yes, I would say it was more effective. Going at a fast pace was nice. Although, having talons on top of the quarter system was overwhelming. I would have tests to study for, and a lot of assignments and overall, not enough time. When I did not have assignments, I spent time working on my other elective. Time management was crucial, and it felt like I was spending half my time figuring out what to finish first.

Think of ONE thing you really want to improve in Quarter 2 (and Q 3&4). Examples: a school subject, a sport, time spent on homework/studying, playing a musical instrument, leadership skills, a language, photography, a relationship, general fitness.

I want to improve on science. More specifically, physics. The reason for this is, I felt like there was so much information, that I missed half of it. Mostly because I spent my time trying to figure out what everything meant. It was a little too fast paced for me. I actually find the subject to be interesting, and I also want to improve on it. I will try to improve on it by going back to the assignments and filling out more occasionally.

What are two specific actions that you can start doing every day to get closer to your goal? How long will you spend on this action each day? What part of the day?

  • I will look back often and continue to ask questions. I’ll probably spend only about 30 minutes because I have sort of a hard time focusing on one subject. I’ll do this whenever I am free/have nothing else to do.
  • I will also try and incorporate physics into activities I enjoy. This will help me be more interested, rather than just sitting down and reading. For me, learning through videos or physically helps me be more attentive. Again, I’ll do this whenever I have time after school.

If you experience challenges, what might you do to work through them? Examples: ask help from a friend or parent; break the task into smaller chunks; “google” how other people may deal with similar problems.

The most effective way for me to work through problems would be to ask. I wouldn’t just ask anyone though. I would probably ask someone who knows why I might be having this challenge. Like someone who is facing the same challenge. This is because then, rather than someone telling me, I would learn how to solve the problem. I also won’t have to solve it by myself if I solve it with someone with a similar challenge. The next effective way for me is to search it up. It can sometimes be more helpful depending on what challenge I am facing. I will try not to move past it and continue to work through it.
