In-Depth Night 2021

Hello everyone and welcome to In-Depth Night!

My name is Simran and for my In-Depth project this year, I pursued jewelry making and focused specifically on making rings. Ring making was a skill that I had never played around with prior to In-Depth and it proved to be a challenging but very enjoyable experience. I would like to thank my mentor Himali for providing me with jewelry-making knowledge and support throughout my In-Depth journey.

For my final project, I have put together a YouTube video and a PowerPoint gallery.

Here is the video tutorial/process video on how to make spoon rings!

For a PowerPoint gallery of some of the rings I have created, click here.

Please feel free to leave any questions or comments you may have about my In-Depth project.

Thank you for visiting my presentation and enjoy the rest of your evening!

  1. Simran! This is so impressive! You demystified this whole process. The spoon ring is gorgeous…I bought one at Xmas for $60! How much time did it in fact take? How do you ensure the hammer does not damage the school design?

  2. Really neat Simran. The silver wire and gold wire rings look really intricate and hard to make! Nice work!

  3. Hi Simran,
Congratulations on your jewelry making project! Such a great idea to use materials around you ( with so much possibilities) and I am glad to see how it all turned out. Your rings are very beautiful. Well done, Simran.

    1. Thank you very much Himali! I appreciate all the knowledge you gave me and the conversations we had :))

  4. This is so cool Simran! I have never heard of spoon/fork rings, but the ones you made look incredible! Do you have any future jewellery project ideas in mind?

    1. Thanks sm Grace! Since I focused on rings during In-Depth I’d like to branch out a bit. I think earrings would be cool to make even though my ears aren’t pierced and I’d also like to try making some necklaces.

    1. Thanks Mel! Lol I also may or may not have stolen most of the bendable spoons and forks out of the drawer…

  5. What a great idea to make spoon rings. I can really see them selling well and a farmer’s market or other craft market. Congratulations.

  6. Amazing project! Your work looks so amazing and your video is super well made! Did you have a specific design in mind you wanted to try, and did you plan in advance to make rings from spoons, or did it just happen?

    1. Thanks so much!! I just remembered seeing a video a while back of someone making a ring out of a spoon and I wanted to try it out for myself. They had a lot more special equipment though like a machine sander and a ring bender. So I decided to see if I could find equipment already laying around at my house to create a spoon ring and it ended up working out!

  7. Your production value is insanely high, I thought you stole your gallery pics from Pinterest. Amazing job! I love them all 🙂

  8. Hi Simran, Ms. Dissegna here! I had never heard of spoon rings until tonight – how cool! I feel like this is so creative, uses high quality materials and is good for the planet! Are you planning on selling your rings? I’d love to buy one:) I’d also love to know what the most challenging and most rewarding part of this process was.

    Well done!

    1. Thank you Ms. Dissegna! I haven’t thought of selling my rings but that could be an idea for the future 🙂 The most challenging part of this process would definitely have to be shaping the ring because my clamp wasn’t the most sturdy so it was hard to keep in place and hammering it down took a while. The process can be done a lot easier and quicker with a ring bender but that’s a piece of equipment I don’t own. The most rewarding part was definitely the final product because it did take me a couple of attempts to get the spoon rings to look exactly how I wanted them to be.

    1. Thank you Ms. Mulder! I would have to say wire rings are my favourite to make because there’s a lot of variety in what you can create. Experimenting with different wire gauges (thickness) and adding accessories like stones adds a lot of fun to it.
