IN-DEPTH NIGHT

Hello everyone! My name is Emma, and my In-Depth this year is cake decorating. Please feel free to look through the post, watch the video, and comment and questions you might have below! Thanks for visiting my blog!

Throughout this year’s In-Depth, I have worked with my wonderful mentor, Cassandra, to make cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, and scones. I focused on icing techniques and perfecting various recipes. Below are a few of the baked goods I made throughout this project.

Here is my final In-Depth project! This short video shows the process I took to create my final cake!

As well, here are some of the photos of my final cake for In-Depth 2021. You can really see the improvement from the cake I made at the start of the project compared to this cake πŸ™‚

Thank you so so much to Cassandra for answering all my questions and sharing such amazing recipes and decorating tips with me throughout this year’s In-Depth, and for being a phenomenal mentor! And thank YOU for reading through my In-Depth Night blog post! Please comment below and I will respond ASAP!

  1. Cake looks delicious! I also like that Murphy made a special guest appearance!

Emma, can you tell me how much butter goes into your butter cream icing?

    1. Thank you so much Ms. Mulder for your comment! My parents, sister, and I got to try some cake tonight and it was so good πŸ™‚ I believe the trickiest part of cake decorating is seeing how all the pieces will come together at the start. At the very start, I had a clear idea of where the cake was headed, but it was tricky to visualize all the pieces coming together. Thanks again for your question!

  2. Emma, that cake looks so delicious and I’m so happy for you that you got to try the cake and that you enjoyed it! Actually, all of your baked goods look phenomenal! When you were making them, did you take inspiration from another baker/recipe?

    1. Thank you so much Grace for your comment and question! And also thanks for supporting me through this whole project and always encouraging my baking πŸ™‚ I was really inspired by Cassandra, my mentor. Her cakes are GORGEOUS, and looking at photos of her cakes from her business was a huge inspiration. Thanks Grace πŸ™‚

  3. We loved the samples of brownies we got to taste. They were so chewy and delicious! Your cake turned out beautiful. I’m curious if you used a thermometer when making the ganache?

    1. Thank you for your comment and question! And thanks for always being willing to try my baking, even the weird secret recipes πŸ™‚ I did not use a thermometer when making the ganache. I just made sure the cream was simmering before mixing it with the chocolate πŸ™‚ Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog and comment, I really appreciate it πŸ™‚

  4. Which one were you most excited to make? also, why didn’t I get to try any!!!!! (just kidding.. unless you wanna donate XD)

    1. Thanks so much for visiting my blog, I really appreciate it! I think making the brownies is my favourite because I looked forward the whole time to getting to eat them at the end haha πŸ™‚ Next time I’ll definitely save you some haha!

  5. Oh my gosh your baking looks so delicious! The drip detail on your cake is seriously so impressive πŸ™‚

  6. Wow, everything looks amazing, and that cake is a showstopper! I noticed in one of your photos that your family dog looked very interested in your cake as well! What type of dessert would you like to try next?

    1. Thank you so much for your comment and question!! And my dog, Murphy, was indeed VERY interested in the cake haha πŸ™‚ I would love to try different cake recipes and maybe something with lemon? And maybe trying cheesecake would be so cool! I really appreciate you taking the time to visit and comment on my blog!

  7. Nice work on the blog Emma. I’ll vouch for the taste of the cake, it was excellent. What do you think your next creation will be? I can’t wait to be your official taster again!

    1. Thank you! πŸ™‚ I think next I’ll try different recipes to make cake! I’d also love to try some more cookie recipes, because they are relatively quick and so so yummy πŸ™‚

  8. Wow! Watching the process of the cake coming together is both satisfying and impressive; there are so many steps! I’m no baker, but it looks very meticulous and harder than it looks for sure.

    1. Thank you so much Kristina you are so kind! πŸ™‚ I really appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog!

  9. Emma it looks so yummy!!!! I bet your family has been enjoying all your baking!!

  10. Hi Emma, everything looks soooo good. Your video was really great and I’m glad you showed each part of the process, while also making it a quick, more attention grabbing video by speeding up some of the longer parts. How long did the final cake take for you to make? How much longer do you think it would have taken if you hadn’t had special tools, such as not having a cake turntable (not sure if that’s what it’s called).

    1. Thank you so much Sinu for visiting and commenting on my blog I really appreciate it! It definitely took my a very long time to make all the cakes, mostly because of the very many steps involved. It was a multi-day process! And without the right equipment (it is a turntable, good job:)) I believe it would have taken me much longer. Thanks again!

  11. I am amazed! Emma this is great! How could you even eat that cake, it looks to good to eat! (although that would be a waste). Are you going to keep making nice looking cakes in the future? Ps. your dog in the picture after the video looks like it wants the cake…

    1. Thanks for the comment Ben! And my dog definitely looked like he would eat the cake if he could haha! I will definitely be making more cakes! Hopefully when it’s safe I’ll share with the TALONS πŸ™‚

  12. Emma!!! this is making me hungry, but dang, this is so good! I love the brownies on the side! What recipe did you use?

    1. Awe thanks so much Mel! You are so kind! My mentor, Cassandra, provided me with the recipe for the brownies, and they are SO good! Next time I make them I’ll make sure to share with all y’all haha!

    1. Awe thank you Simran you are so nice! I really appreciate that you took the time to visit my blog!

  13. Thank you, Emma! What an intriguing process. I loved how your final cake incorporated so many techniques: folding, leveling, frosting, piping, and smoothing. Well done! I bet t was delicious. The design and complexity of ingredients was impressive! Yeah!

  14. Wow Emma! That was incredible! Your presentation was so well done and your cake looks absolutely beautiful. So intricate and detailed too! How long did it take you to make that cake shown on your video?

    1. Thank you so much Natasha! To answer your question, this cake was a several-day process. I spend a a couple hours making the cakes and brownies, another hour making buttercream and ganache, and then a couple hours of decorating. I likely spend around five to six hours in total on this cake, though that is an rough estimate as I was not timing myself. Thanks for taking the time to look at my blog and comment!! πŸ™‚
